At a glance, the OLD WORKFLOW, shown below
We fully recommend using the Revit Plug-in for Cupix, but we are including the much more tedious workflow involving multiple export steps, ReCap Pro, and import steps to get the data into Revit. It is so much easier with the New Cupix Revit Plugin!
OLD WORKFLOW: To use point cloud data from Cupix in Revit, you’ll need to first export the data from Cupix as either an .e57 or .ply file. Then, open Autodesk ReCap and create a new project to import that file. ReCap will convert it into a .rcp or .rcs file, which Revit can read. Once processed, open your Revit project and use the Insert > Point Cloud option to bring the ReCap output into your model.
Step 1: Export Point Cloud from CupixVista as e57
Open you your Capture in CupixVista and Press Export to save as e57 or PLY format. You may end up with multiple E57 files if the capture is large.
- Open your CupixVista Capture
- Press the Export Button and Choose e57 or PLY
- Save the E57 file from CupixVista. You may end up with multiple E57 files if the capture is large.
Step 2: Import e57 files into ReCap Pro and Export RCP file
Open AutoDesk ReCap Pro and import your e57 data into Recap following on-screen prompts.
- Create New Project in Recap
- Import e57 Point Cloud Files from CupixVista into Recap
- Export File as *.RCP file. You will also find a file folder with containing related RCS files.
Step 3: Import RCP into Revit
Open a Project in Revit
Goto Insert > Point Cloud
Import *.RCP file into Revit.
The point cloud will be visible in 3D views and you use a section box (shortcut key is "BX" in Revit) to edit the section box on the 3D point cloud.
